A big idea, built from small bricks
The BrightBrick Project is a youth-led nonprofit on a mission to bring joy, creativity, and encouragement to children in foster care.
Meet our founder, Piper Boss
Piper Boss is a student at Helena High School in Shelby County, Alabama. After careful thought about where she could make a real difference, she decided to serve children in the foster care system. She grew up loving LEGO® bricks — and she knows firsthand that building isn't just play. It teaches patience, problem-solving, and pride in making something of your own.
For a child in foster care, who may have moved between homes with very few belongings, a brand-new set of bricks means something more: it's theirs. On July 1, 2025, Piper officially launched The BrightBrick Project to put that feeling into as many small hands as possible.
Starting a charity as a teenager wasn't easy — but Piper found champions in her community, including state Rep. Leigh Hulsey, and a growing team of family, friends, and volunteers who believe in the mission.

Our mission is to spark creativity, build confidence, and offer hope to children and teens in foster care by providing them with LEGO® sets that inspire joy, imagination, and healing through play.
Our vision
LEGO® isn't just play—it's early engineering, logic, architecture, mechanics, and design thinking. For foster kids—who may have limited access to enrichment or STEM encouragement—this exposure is powerful.
We envision a world where every child—especially those in foster care—has the chance to dream, build, and believe in their power. Through the joy of hands-on play and the wonder of STEM, we strive to ignite creativity, spark confidence, and open doors to bold, limitless futures. We believe that with the right tools, every child can not only imagine a better world, but build it—brick by brick.
What we do
Collect LEGO® sets
We gather new and gently used sets through donations and local collection partners, then clean and check every one.
Pair them with letters
Volunteers handwrite letters of encouragement, so every gift arrives with words that lift a child up.
Deliver joy
Working with foster care families and agencies in our community, we get each set into the hands of a child who needs a bright moment.
